Signal Match

A clean sixteen-tile memory game scored on moves, not luck. Find all eight pairs.

About Signal Match

Signal Match is a memory game stripped back to the part that actually tests you. Sixteen tiles sit face down in a four-by-four grid, hiding eight matching pairs of symbols. You flip two tiles per move. If they match they stay open; if they do not, they turn back over and you are left holding one more piece of information than you had before. Clear all eight pairs to finish the board.

The scoring is what gives it teeth. The game counts moves rather than time, so there is no reward for frantic clicking and no penalty for sitting still and thinking. A perfect run is eight moves and essentially impossible; anything in the low teens means you were genuinely tracking the board rather than guessing. The timer runs alongside as a tiebreaker, so when two runs finish on the same move count the faster one takes your personal best.

Because the board is small, a full game takes about a minute, which makes it a good fit for the gap between other things. The grid scales to whatever screen you are on and the tiles are sized for thumbs, so it plays the same on a phone as it does on a desktop. Your best result is stored in your own browser. There is nothing to download, nothing to install, and no account to create.

How to Play

  1. Press Play to deal a fresh board of sixteen face-down tiles.
  2. Click or tap any tile to flip it face up, then flip a second tile.
  3. If the two symbols match, the pair locks open and stays visible. If they do not match, both tiles flip back after a moment.
  4. Keep going until all eight pairs are found. Your move count and time are shown at the top, and your best run is saved between sessions.

Tips & Strategy

  • Work the grid in a fixed reading order on your first few moves. A predictable sweep is far easier to remember than random clicking.
  • When you reveal a symbol you have already seen, go straight to its partner rather than continuing your sweep. Banked information decays fast.
  • Anchor unknown tiles to the corners and edges. Positions with a distinct location are easier to recall than tiles in the middle.
  • Do not rush the flip-back animation. The extra half second where both tiles are visible is exactly when the pair gets committed to memory.
  • If you lose track, stop clicking. The timer is only a tiebreaker, so a few seconds of recall costs you far less than two wasted moves.
