Silk Flow
Thousands of particles drifting through an invisible current that you can steer.
About Silk Flow
Silk Flow is a field of roughly two and a half thousand particles moving through an invisible current. The current itself is a slowly evolving pattern of angles covering the whole screen, so left alone the particles organise into long parallel ribbons that drift and rewind through each other. Each particle draws a short line where it has just been, and the background fades rather than clearing, so those paths accumulate into strands that look woven rather than scattered. Colour is driven by speed and direction, which means fast-moving currents run bright and stalled regions sink into deep blue.
Your cursor is a disturbance in that current. Particles within range are pulled toward it, but they also receive a sideways push, so instead of collapsing onto your pointer they wrap around it and orbit. Move slowly and you drag a thick braid of silk behind you. Move quickly across the field and you leave a wake that keeps turning over long after you have gone. The Swirl slider controls how much of that force is sideways rather than inward, from a tight knot at zero to a wide, lazy vortex at full.
Push Out inverts the pull, carving an expanding clearing through the strands, which is a completely different feel from drawing them in. The Trails slider sets how fast the canvas fades — low values keep every path for several seconds and build dense, painterly layers, high values give clean moving lines with almost no history. There is no score, no goal, and nothing to fail. It runs free in the browser on desktop and mobile with nothing to install.
How to Play
- Move your cursor or finger across the canvas. Particles near it are drawn in and set orbiting, leaving trails behind them.
- Use the Swirl slider to change how much the current rotates around your pointer rather than pulling straight toward it.
- Press Draw In to flip to Push Out, which repels particles and opens a clearing instead of gathering a braid.
- Set Trails low for dense painterly build-up or high for clean lines, and press Clear to wipe the canvas and reseed the field.
Controls
- Move cursor
- Attract and swirl nearby particles
- Touch drag
- Same on phones and tablets
- Draw In / Push Out
- Invert the force around your pointer
- Swirl / Trails
- Rotation strength and how long paths persist
Tips & Strategy
- Move slowly. The strands need time to wrap around the pointer, and fast movement just cuts through them without forming a braid.
- Set Swirl near maximum and hold still. The particles settle into a standing vortex that keeps turning on its own.
- Turn Trails all the way down and let it run untouched for thirty seconds. The natural current paints the whole screen without any input.
- Switch to Push Out after building a dense area — carving a clearing through thick silk looks far better than doing it on an empty canvas.
- Drag in a slow circle to make the wake close on itself into a loop that keeps rotating after you stop.
