Sand Fall
Pour endless streams of rainbow sand and watch it pile, slide, and settle.
About Sand Fall
Sand Fall is a falling-sand sandbox with no score, no timer, and no way to lose. You drag a finger or cursor across the screen and coloured sand pours out of it, one grain at a time, drifting down until it hits something solid. Grains that land on a slope keep sliding until they find a resting angle, so piles build themselves into soft cones rather than stacking into towers. The colour shifts continuously as you draw, which means a single long stroke lays down a whole gradient and a pile assembled over a few minutes ends up banded like sandstone.
The stone tool is what turns a toy into something you can compose with. Stone does not move, so you can draw shelves, funnels, hourglass necks, and channels, then pour sand across them and watch it find every gap you left. Narrow a channel and the flow chokes into a trickle; widen it and the whole pile above collapses through at once. The eraser cuts holes in anything, including the middle of a settled heap, which produces the single most satisfying event in the game: the moment a hollowed pile realises it has nothing underneath and slumps.
Everything is simulated grain by grain on a fine grid, so the behaviour emerges rather than being animated. Brush size and flow rate are both adjustable, which is the difference between a delicate drizzle and burying the entire screen. It runs in the browser on desktop and mobile with no download and no account, and the clear button gives you a blank screen whenever you want to start over.
How to Play
- Drag anywhere on the canvas to pour sand. The colour cycles automatically as you draw, so longer strokes produce wider gradients.
- Switch to Stone to draw immovable walls, ledges, and funnels for the sand to fall through and collect on.
- Use Erase to cut away sand or stone, including from underneath a settled pile to make it collapse.
- Adjust Brush for the width of your stroke and Flow for how densely sand pours, then press Clear whenever you want an empty screen.

Tips & Strategy
- Draw a stone funnel first and pour into the top. A narrow neck turns a shapeless dump into a steady, mesmerising trickle.
- Keep Flow low when you want visible layers. At high flow the colours blend together before individual bands can form.
- Build a stone shelf, bury it completely, then erase the shelf. The whole load drops at once and it is the best thing in the game.
- Angled stone lines work better than flat ones. Sand sliding along a diagonal spreads into a fan instead of stacking in place.
- A large brush at low flow gives a wide, even drizzle, which is the fastest way to fill a shape without lumpy edges.
